Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy has an important and varied role in neurological and general rehabilitation.

We can work towards improving your independence in functional tasks, potentially reducing the need for care support, strategies to aid your memory and cognition, and techniques to manage fatigue. All of this aims to improve your wellbeing and quality of life.

We can also complete home and work place assessments to advise about appropriate seating, equipment, postural support, aids and gadgets to improve your comfort, safety and independence.

Assessments, treatment plans and goals will always be established in conjunction with you, to ensure your needs are met.

  • Hand Therapy/ spasticity management

We can make bespoke hand splints to manage spasticity, assist with post- botox effectiveness, prevent contracture and maintain range of movement and hand hygiene. Please see our Hand Therapy section for more information.

  • Fatigue management

If you suffer from fatigue, we can teach you techniques to help manage your fatigue levels, and effectively pace your activities during the day. This can be helpful for a range of conditions, including Multiple Sclerosis, Functional Neurological Disorder, Parkinson’s Disease and Stroke.

  • Activities of daily living practice

Occupational Therapy can help you regain independence and confidence in activities of daily living, such as personal care, bathing, kitchen skills, hobbies and much more. This can improve quality of life, wellbeing, and can reduce the need for carer involvement.

  • Cognitive assessments/ rehabilitation

If your cognition has changed as a result of your neurological condition, we can complete standardised assessments to determine the exact nature of your difficulties. We can then work with you to develop strategies to manage and challenge your cognition and memory.

  • Equipment, postural support and seating

We can assess your home or work environment, and can identify equipment to improve your safety and independence. This can include bathing and toileting equipment, stair and access equipment, bedroom equipment, seating, and aids and adaptations to improve your independence with daily activities.
